Welcome To Dalton’s Greater Works

THERE IS A DISTINCTION BETWEEN HOMELESS & HOPELESS.

COVID-19 PRECAUTIONS:

Until further notice, DGW will restrict or limit access to any individual who exhibits symptoms of illness (including fever and/or cough). DGW will require the use of face masks, social distancing and the use of hand sanitizer in our facility for all clients, volunteers and donors exhibiting such symptoms. For all others, such precautions are suggested. Please follow and respect all volunteers seeking to ensure everyone’s safety while visiting.

IT IS IMPORTANT TO UNDERSTAND THAT THERE IS A DISTINCTION BETWEEN HOMELESS & HOPELESS. The homeless in Dalton vary from people who deal with illiteracy or addiction to people who have doctorates and have been successful business professionals. The economic downturn has severely impacted this area. People who walk through our doors cannot be categorized by ethnicity, education level, age, or social background. Some live on the streets, under bridges, or in one of the “tent cities” in Dalton. Many of these people are living in sub-standard housing without the ability to pay for water, electricity, or basic necessities like food and clothing. Several of these individuals do odd jobs to earn enough to allow them a modicum of pride and to be somewhat self-reliant.

Many people we have been privileged to care for are thoughtful people who, through circumstances often beyond their control, have lost their footing in a relationship, financially, medically, socially, or a combination of all of these. They contribute back as their abilities and means allow and each of them is searching for a “family” connection and the ability to rise above their current situation. We strive to get everyone we serve off the street and into lives filled with purpose and meaning. Literacy programs are needed. We have turned our building into a Day Center that provides services to train and foster personal development as well as provide help locating jobs, better living conditions, and counseling. Help us show how a little kindness can make a huge impact in our community!
