About Dalton’s Greater Works

We are a qualified not-profit charity that serves homeless and indigent men, women and children that live in our city. Founded in June of 1996, we have evolved from just four men from that park at Dalton Green in attendance and six volunteers cooking breakfast to presently providing 50-60 men and women with showers, clean clothing to those in need, and a couple meals a week in our new facility. Our volunteer staff rotates service days and times to always provide workers to meet the demand for our services. In January 2010, we applied for and received our incorporation and listing as a non-profit charity. In doint so, we have the abilities to expand and provide services to meet the needs that are being made known by the people we serve-Anyone who will walk, ride the weekly shuttle we run, or drive to the center will be served regardless of their place in life, homeless or otherwise. We work with the alcoholic, drug addicted, mentally handicapped, or those who are just “down on their luck” in our community. Dalton’s Greater works follows the ‘cup overflown’ philosophy…everything comes from God and goes back to the people we serve. We do not profit or hoard in any way. Everything that is given to us for free is given by us for free. All donation go directly towards the charity and the homeless. What service do you provide?

Our staff of volunteer serve hot meals on Sunday mornings and Tuesday nights. Laundry facilities and showers with soap, shampoo and towels available in our day center. We have started a computer center to help with job searches and resume preparation. Using the Client’s Choice Model, Greater Works has a client choice food pantry, supplemented by our on-site garden, and clothing store. More importantly, our volunteers are people who listen and treat these individuals with the respect to everyone.

We also offer additional resources and referrals to other services.

What is client's choice and how does it work?

Client’s choice means just that-the people we serve get to choose what they wear and what food they prefer based on what they need. We use a sliding income scale (based on a number of people in the household) to determine how much food is allowed. Then we let them soap. There are guidelines of how many meats, veggies, etc… but we leave the choice of what food up to the individuals seeking our assistance. Not only is there less waste, but the client gets what they truly need, not whatever is left over, providing self-worth and confident.
